   生物医用材料(Biomedical Materials)是用来对生物体进行诊断、治疗、修复或替换其病损组织、器官或增进其功能的材料。依据生物材料的发展历史及材料本身的特点，可以将已有的材料分为三代。

第一代生物医用材料，代表材料有石膏、各种金属、橡胶以及棉花等物品；

第二代生物医用材料的发展是建立在医学、材料科学（尤其是高分子材料学）、生物化学、物理学及大型物理测试技术发展的基础之上的。代表材料有羟基磷灰石、磷酸三钙、据羟基乙酸、聚甲基丙烯酸羟乙基酯、胶原、多肽、纤维蛋白等。

第三代生物医用材料是一类具有促进人体自修复和再生作用的生物医学复合材料，它以对生物体内各种细胞组织、生长因子、生长抑素及生长基质等结构和性能的了解为基础来简历生物医用材料的概念。骨形态发生蛋白（BMP）材料是第三代生物医用材料中的代表材料。

本文所说的生物医用材料按材料的组成和性质是跟进生物医用材料按材料的组成和性质来划分。

   生物医学金属材料是由于其机械强度、导电性、腐蚀性能和（在许多情况下）生物相容性而用于医学和生物应用的金属和金属基合金。它们通常用于结构植入物、固定装置、牙科部件、心血管装置、手术器械和一些药物输送或诊断工具。

组成和类型：

纯金属：如商业纯钛（cp-Ti）、钽（Ta）。

常规合金：如不锈钢（316L/317L）、钴铬（Co-Cr）合金、钛合金（Ti-6Al-4V）。

新兴/生物可吸收金属：例如，镁（Mg）和镁合金，铁（Fe）基和锌（Zn）基可降解金属。

表面改性金属和涂层：如氧化层、羟基磷灰石、聚合物涂层、类金刚石（DLC）。

特殊的类和权衡：

钛及钛合金：耐腐蚀性好，强度重量比好，骨结合性强，广泛用于种植体。

不锈钢（医用级316L）：性价比高，机械性能好，但比Ti模量更高，离子释放更多。

钴铬合金：非常耐磨和耐腐蚀-用于接合表面（关节轴承）。

镁和其他可降解金属：旨在逐渐溶解在体内，无需切除手术；挑战包括控制降解速率和生物相容性。

还有如表面处理（阳极氧化、钝化、粗化、涂层）可调整耐腐蚀性、细胞反应、抗菌性能和磨损性能。多孔或粗糙的表面促进骨向内生长；药物或生长因子负载涂层可以提供局部治疗。

骨科：髋关节、膝关节假体、骨板、螺钉、髓内钉。

牙科：种植体、牙冠、基牙。

心血管：支架、心脏瓣膜架、起搏器导联（部分部件）。

颌面和颅面板和网。

手术工具和器械。
